<B>General John B. Gordon Autograph Letter Signed</B></I>, on United States Senate Chamber letterhead, Washington, DC, March 22, 1877. One of Robert E. Lee's most trusted commanders during the Civil War, John Brown Gordon (1832-1904) became an outspoken opponent of Reconstruction and "Grand Dragon" of the Georgia Ku Klux Klan, an association he denied during Congressional testimony in 1871. The letter reads in full "<I>Dear Sir: I thank you for your complimentary letter and enclose as requested my autograph-Very Respectfully, J. B. Gordon</B></I>".
