Attributed to Brigadier General James M. Gavin, "Jumpin' Jim", 82nd Airborne Div., 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment. 1943. Tag: "TYPE A-2, DWG.NO.30H1415, A.C...., ORDER NO. 42-5 42, PROPERTY, AIR FORCE, U.S. ARMY, AERO LEATHER C.O.CO, BEACON, N.Y." Size: 40. Left breast: painted black and white 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment patch with black panther on shield and tab reading "READY". Left shoulder: full color red, white and blue 82nd Airborne Division leather patch with tab. Right shoulder: U.S. Army Parachute Training School Patch. Each shoulder has a single 5-pointed, painted silver on leather star for brigadier general.
Jacket belonged to Major General James M. Gavin. Often referred to as "The Jumping General", Gavin was the only American general to make four combat jumps during the war. He was the youngest major general to command an American division in WWII at the age of 37 and the youngest lieutenant general after the war. He was awarded two Distinguished Service Crosses.
