Dwight Eisenhower autograph letter signed ''Ike'' as Supreme Commander of Allied Expeditionary Forces, dated 16 October [1944]. Affectionately referring to his wife, Mamie, as ''Darling,'' Eisenhower thanks her for various gifts received and updates her on his whereabouts, briefly mentioning Meaux, France. Letter is written in ink on two pages and reads in full: ''Darling: Just a note to thank you for slippers and 'Wild Wests.' Also to enclose several notes that I'd like you to hand out. Two go to Ethel Wyman (hers and for her daughter) and one to the Levys. The cigarette case is obviously an expensive gift, but how can I ever offer a cigarette to anyone who might read 'The victorious' Gen.? -- Damn!! However the thought was nice and I've written a really nice note to them both. Good thing you told me who they were. But tell them personally I truly appreciate their thought!! Maybe I'll get to use the house at La Ferte, near Meaux. Remember the town?? I must run. Lots of love, always. Well that one was over more quickly than I anticipated -- so 'here me' again. I am truly sorry you still have indigestion attacks -- from your photos you look so well! I'm sorry there's no hope this morning -- Lots and lots of love -- Ike. P.S. I sent a note to the Mrs. Loggert that sent the 3 books to you! P.P.S. Sent Wagner letters direct -- also one to man who sent me bottle opener.'' 2pp. letter measures 8'' x 10.5''. Minor toning throughout, else near fine.
