General Dwight Eisenhower autograph letter signed to his wife, Mamie, dated 5 January, (1943). As Supreme Commander, Allied Force of the North African Theater of Operations, with the invasion of North Africa behind him, Eisenhower would have been writing from Allied Forces Headquarters in Algiers. Letter reads in part, ''I've just talked to Al Gruenther and our conversation turned to you. I found myself talking about how much I miss you -- he must have thought I was a bit maudlin. But you cannot imagine what a real pleasure it was to talk about it to someone I respect & who knows & likes you so well...We're crowded for time, as always. Things always seem to pop here instead of arriving gradually. 'Emergency' is a good name for war -- everything is invariably high pressure!...For some time I've had no letter from you. In fact [his brother] Milton brought the most recent one. So, although I got your Xmas radio I sent Charlie Gailey a radio this a.m. to say that you must write to me. I haunt the mail deliveries. The other day I received a batch -- all it was amounted to nothing. Merely a bunch of post cards telling me individuals had purchased liberty bonds for themselves but designating me as the soldier in whose honor they were bought. But when one comes from you, I have a field day!...'' Eisenhower signs ''Your Ike''. 8'' x 10.25'' 2pp. letter is in fine condition.
