General Alfred H. Terry Document Signed "Alfred H. Terry." Alfred Terry is well-known for several reasons, the most notable being that he commanded the legendary General Custer in the 1870s. Born in 1827, Terry was a member of the Union Army, where he ended up with the rank General of the Volunteers. His army was the unit that arrived at Little Big Horn to back up Custer's men who were already dead, having attacked prematurely at Custer's command. Terry became a Major General in 1886, and was placed in charge of the Army's Great Plains Forces until he retired. He died four years later in 1890, in Connecticut.

This document is a ledger that enumerates the payments of Major J.W. Nichols. It lists several people who received vouchers followed by a signature of General Terry. The signature signifies that he examined and approved these transactions. He signed this letter while he was at the rank of brevet major general. The document is in fine condition; the signature is dark and clear. The only flaw is a hard crease on the right edge of the document. A wonderful piece of history!
