Gene Roddenberry typed letter signed regarding ''Star Trek: The Motion Picture'' as it was being filmed. Composed on ''Star Trek'' letterhead, Roddenberry writes on 11 September 1978 to Jesco von Puttkamer of NASA, in part, ''Especially delighted with the last couple of tech advice memos you sent...The only exception is the Vulcan shuttle which we will still send on its way as in script...Thank you for the incredible news clipping about my hiring the FBI to protect STAR TREK and the mind-boggling electronic equipment from NASA, JPL, Boeing, etc. If we have all this stuff, why hasn't someone told me about it? I supposed it comes under the category of 'creative' news writing. Our closed set policy is resulting in a lot of mystery being built up about our film and I think we can expect some pretty wild rumors over the next year...[signed] Gene Roddenberry''. In addition to working with NASA on ''Star Trek: The Motion Picture'', Roddenberry was present at NASA's 1976 unveiling of the Space Shuttle Enterprise, named after the ''Star Trek'' spaceship. Single page letter measures 8.5'' x 11''. Very good to near fine condition.
