General Chen Cheng Letter Signed as Chinese Minister of War, Three Pages, 11 1/4" x 8 3/8"; May 8, 1946.

The letter is written in Chinese characters, and includes a translation by H.C. Chang, Consulate-General of the Republic of China dated June 6, 1946.

All letters are written to Mr. Paul C. Smith, Chief Editor of the San Francisco Chronicle.

General Chen Cheng writes, in part:

"I have learned from Dr. Co Tui of the great help you have given us during the war years through your enthusiastic leadership in raising large funds for the purchase of medicines and ambulance (sic) for our wounded soldiers. It gives me great pleasure to express to you on behalf of the Chinese Army, their sincere appreciation and deep gratitude for your magnificent efforts."
