Gemini Signed Photos Acquired by Walter Cunningham
"WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS BY THE AUCTIONEER ONCE ALL BIDS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED TO DETERMINE THE WINNER FOR EACH LOT."
One-of-a-kind signed collage of images from all Gemini manned missions, Gemini III-XII, with each photograph selected by Walter Cunningham immediately after splashdown and then signed, at Cunningham's request, by the astronauts on the mission, five of whom are no longer alive. Collage contains 10 captivating photographs, housed in two frames that hung on Cunningham's wall for the past 45 years. Cunningham selected each image as representative of that particular mission: The Gemini III mission photograph shows the Titan rocketing into space with photo overlays of Gus Grissom and John Young, signed by each astronaut next to their image. Gemini IV shows Edward White on the famous first ''space walk'' and is signed by both White and James McDivitt. Gemini V captures Gordon Cooper and Pete Conrad happily walking the tarmac after returning from their week-long hiatus in space; Conrad writes, ''To Walt / After 7 Days we didn't feel very good. Pete Charles Conrad'' and Cooper wittily adds, ''But we had great Beards! Gordon Cooper''. Gemini VII is signed by James Lovell and Frank Borman who look relieved to be home after two weeks in space. Gemini VI-A captures the rendezvous in space with Gemini VII and is inscribed, ''Up and at 'em Walt - Wally Schirra'' and ''To Walt Cunningham - Best regards and I hope we can work together again / Tom Stafford''. On the second framed piece, the photo of Gemini VIII captures the Agena as seen from the Gemini spacecraft, and is signed by Neil Armstrong and Dave Scott. Gemini IX-A shows the ATDA floating in space, signed by Tom Stafford and Gene Cernan. The photograph of Gemini X is signed by Michael Collins and John Young, and shows the men shortly after splashdown. The photo of Gemini XI captures an elegant image of the earth's surface, inscribed by Dick Gordon, ''To Walt - May your view be even higher! Dick Gordon'' to which ''Charles Conrad'' adds his autograph. Finally, the photograph of Gemini XII displays the success of the Gemini XII tethered station-keeping, to which James Lovell writes, ''To: Walt - Gravity Gradient in Action / James Lovell'' underneath which Buzz Aldrin signs his name. Each framed piece holds five color photographs and measures 29.75'' x 24.5''. The photos themselves vary in size, with four measuring approximately 9'' x 7'' and six measuring approximately 7'' x 7''. All photos are in near fine condition, archivally framed since their collection by Cunningham. An incredibly unique group of signed images owned by one of America's beloved astronauts, paying homage to the groundbreaking Gemini missions. Lot is accompanied by a letter of authenticity by Walter Cunningham.
