Selected to be the two-man crew of Gemini 9, Bassett and Elliot See were killed on February 28, 1966, when their T-38 trainer jet crashed into McDonnell Aircraft Building 101. ALS signed “Charles A. Bassett II, Captain USAF,” one page, 8 x 10.25, January 6, 1964. Letter to an admirer. In full: “I am very pleased to send you my photograph. I hope it will again make your collection complete. I think it is wonderful that you have taken it on yourself to help the space program along. It is people like you that will make it a success.” In fine condition. Accompanied by an unsigned official color 8 x 10 NASA lithograph. Only four months earlier, Bassett had been selected as one of the 14 astronauts in Group 3. One of the most elusive astronauts due to his untimely death, this handwritten letter is the first one this company has ever offered.
