For your consideration is this original Gary Herbert bronze depicting a Native American man performing the Eagle Dance. The Eagle Dance is meant to depict the life cycle of an eagle from birth to death. The dance was often performed to bring about rain for crops, among other reasons. Gary Herbert held an undergrad degree from Harvard and a Law Degree form the University of Colorado. While working as a partner in a prestigious Denver law firm, Herbert became interested in Frederick Remington bronzes. Soon, he discovered he himself had real marketable talent as a sculptor. Putting his law career on hold, he moved to Breckenridge to pursue his dreams. He enjoyed backpacking trips, watching animals, and studying anatomy for his art. He also lived on a Indian reservations to study their culture. It is said he never sculpted from photographs. This signed bronze is dated 1974 and is number 18 of 25 cast. The bronze is mounted to a rough chunk of dressed marble slab. The piece is in very good condition; it measures 18"L x 5 1/2"D x 10 1/2"T.
