Gary Cooper Signed Handwritten Note & Photo
Gary Cooper Signed Handwritten Note & Photo - One of the all time great iconic legends of Hollywood, Gary Cooper, was married to one wife for his entire adult life. Her name was Veronica Cooper. She also went by the name of Sandra Shaw as an actress (though her only real claim to fame is being the blond that is dropped by King Kong in the original 1933 classic). However Gary and her friends called her Rocky or just Roc. Veronica was truly a "stand by your man" woman, since Cooper was known as one of the most active ladies men in Hollywood. Virtually every female star of the time (as well as just regular "civilian" women he'd meet on a daily basis), had a moment or more with him in the bedroom, and he also had several long standing "mistress" relationships with some of the most famous actresses and socialites in town. He loved to travel in a circle of select friends who seemed to look the other way during his many dalliances. Among this group was Van Johnson and his wife Evie, as well as Kennan Wynn (who was original married to Evie until she left Kennan for Van). This is a rare handwritten note that Gary Cooper wrote (and which was occupied by a massive flower gift basket) to Evie for her birthday party held at her and Van's house. Cooper writes: "Evie my dear, Happy B. Day - Love Gary & Roc". Along with the note is a personal photograph, taken by Van of Gary Cooper and Keenan Wynn at the party, in very casual poses. Quite rare to see Gary from his personal life. The photo comes directly from Van Johnson's personal family album. It comes from Van Johnson’s personal collection, and includes a Letter of Provenience from the Johnson’s daughter, Schuyler Johnson along with a copy of her famous controversial cover story article “My Life As A Hollywood Princess”, about her trials and tribulations growing up in Beverly Hills with a superstar father and extended “family” with some of the most famous celebrities in the world. The handwritten note is approx 4"x 3" and the family photo is approx 5"x 3.5".
