Garth Williams initialed draft of his cover illustration for ''Emmett's Pig,'' done in pencil, watercolor and ink. The artist, whose endearing drawings have graced such children's classics as ''Little House on the Prairie'' and ''Charlotte's Web,'' adds an initialed pencil notation in his hand to the left edge: ''Picture move to left GW.'' Other notations instruct: ''Give more background to cover the white'' and ''We all like this one''. Mary Stolz' touching children's book about a city boy who wants a pet pig was first published in 1959 by Harper & Brothers, likely dating this drawing to 1958 or 1959. Measures 6.75'' x 8.75''. Light smudging to penciled outlines. Near fine.
