Octavo. 186 pages plus Bibliography of Serviss.<BR><BR>Publisher's maroon cloth with gilt spine titles. In original pictorial dust jacket, utilized on the remaindered copies not sold directly from the publisher. Minor toning and moderate bumping to the board edges. Spine titles lightly faded. Text overall very clean. Dust jacket, rarely seen on the book, worn at all four folds, with the front flap detached. Spine ends noticeably chipped. Overall, a good, solid copy of a scarce science fiction title.<BR><BR>Accompanied by an original four-page solicitation for the book in the original Carcosa House envelope. The ad is in fine condition, with the envelope showing minor wear.<BR><BR>"First serialized in the New York <I>Evening Journal</B></I> in 1898, this was intended as a sequel to Wells' <I>The War of the Worlds</B></I>, which had been published in <I>Cosmopolitan </B></I>in 1897. Although technical detail and explanation are dismissed, the novel becomes a eulogy to the inventiveness of Edison. Except for giantism, evolution on Mars parallels that of Earth."
