<B>[Randall Garrett] </B></I><B><I>Hepcats of Venus</B></I></B></I><B> Original Manuscript, Layout Art, and Galley Proofs.</B></I> <BR>Terrific production lot including the typed manuscript of Randall Garrett's short story, <I>Hepcats of Venus</B></I>, first published in <I>Fantastic Stories of the Imagination</B></I> in January 1962. Also offered is the layout art for the magazine's production of Garrett's story, and the magazine's final galley proofs. <I>Hepcats</B></I> (also published as <I>The Cosmic Beat</B></I>) was reprinted later in <I>Thrilling Science Fiction</B></I> magazine (Spring 1971).<BR><BR>The original 30-page manuscript was written by "David Gordon," one of Garrett's pseudonyms, and is well marked up, with edits to punctuation, pagination, wording, etc., accomplished in several hands. Also included in this archive are two layout pages with the original artwork that accompanied the published story. Each layout bears handwritten notations as to font size and type, where the art is to be inserted, etc. We also offer two copies of the production galley proofs (21 pages each), as well as the original manila envelope that contained these items from the <I>Fantastic Stories</B></I> archives. Manuscript and art layout pages show significant handling and wear, with smudges, chips and small tears throughout. Galley proofs are quite age toned and rather brittle, but show surprisingly little wear or damage. Envelope is in rather good shape with a few creases and smudges around the edges.
