Gangs Of New York Screen Used Battle Knives Props
Gangs Of New York Screen Used Battle Knives Props - Director Martin Scorsese has admitted that even though his epic masterpiece "Gangs of New York" (2002) is about the famous wars between different generations of Irish immigrants in 1863 in the Five Points area of New York City, the film itself slowly took on the look and feel of a Sergio Leone or even a Fellini film. This was due in part because many of the crew worked with both of these legendary directors, as well as the fact that most of the New York streets and interiors were filmed at Cinecitta Studios in Rome, where both these, as well as other great Italian directors worked through the years. Of course the two most impressive sequences are the two gang wars, one at the opening of the film, and the other at the end pitting Amsterdam Vallon (Leonardo Di Caprio), against the leader of the rival gang who killed Vallon's father, Bill "the Butcher" Cutting (Daniel Day-Lewis). Never before has such fight sequences been filmed in this manner showing painful and bloody realistic shots of exactly what it is like for hordes of angry men (and women) to fight each other with whatever weapons they can find, including mostly handmade knives, axes and swords. These are two screen used knives from these sequences. They come from the personal collection of Gennaro Avvisato who was one of the prop masters in these fight sequences. One of the knives has also been "art directed" by Avvisato with blood stains. Pair of screen used knives are approx 16" long.
