Mahatma Gandhi's personal notebook page written while in London, circa 1888-9, wherein Gandhi taught himself to speak English. Handwritten in black ink, both in Hindi and in English. Reads in part: ''5. Plums, pears, apples, pineapples, melons, pomegranate, grapes, cherries, these are fresh fruit. 6. They are very fond of potatoes and tomatoes. 7. All the boys sit on that bench. 8. mix water with flour and afterwards cook it…'' One page written on recto and verso, measuring 3.75'' x 6.25''. Tiny spot of discoloration and minute crease to lower left margin, staple holes to top margin, otherwise fine condition.
