<B>Galveston, TX- Commercial & Agricultural Bank</B></I> $10 Jan. 1, 1848 C8a Medlar UNL Olson UNL<BR>The C&A was the only bank authorized to issue currency in Texas by virtue of its 1835 charter granted by Mexico. However, this banking privilege remained dormant until 1848 when Samuel L. Williams opened the bank and operated it for ten years. This note is a contemporary counterfeit. Issued examples of notes from this bank are listed as SENC, "Surviving Example Not Confirmed," in Haxby.
