Apparently the GB&TLC owned 177+ acres in four tracts near Galveston Bay. Empresarios of the venture sought to raise capital for a survey of their holdings by issuing scrip credits for "One Labor." Although the document looks like a conveyance of actual land ownership, a careful reading leads to the conclusion that the scheme was something of a con, since it only entitled the bearer to participate in paying for the land survey of "all the land not settled according to Law" in a district north of Galveston Bay. Just how successful this scheme was is somewhat problematical. This ornate document is impressive. It has a map of the Galveston area west of the Sabine River and east of Navasoto and San Jacinto Rivers, an agricultural vignette of Two Cherubs and additional decorative flourishes. It is signed by the Company's Secretary and three trustees in bold script. The document measures approximately 8" by 13". It is printed on a crisp, thin paper stock. It is folded, but Extremely Fine. (800-1,200 )

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour.
