Gallager Breech Loading Percussion Civil War Carbine
This Gallager carbine that was manufactured by Richardson & Overman of Philadelphia with a total production about 13,000 in the 50 percussion caliber. This is a single shot, breech loading percussion carbine with a walnut straight grip stock and a patch box. The lock is marked "MANUFACTD BY / RICHARDSON & OVERMAN / PHILADA" over the serial number directly behind the hammer and "GALLAGER'S PATENT / JULY 17TH 1860" to the rear. The front sight a fixed pinched blade and the rear a folding leaf style. There is a saddle ring bar and ring mounted on the left stock wrist. The Gallager saw extensive service during the Civil War including cavalry regiments from Ohio, Tennessee and West Virginia.

Condition: Period replated with much of the nickel plating remaining speckled with dark patina and areas of pitting (mostly on the barrel). The hammer and lever have a dark patina with some minor spotting and pitting. The patchbox and rear sight show minor pitting. The stock is good with the exception of a 2 1/2" splinter missing and a minor crack on top of the wrist at the hammer, otherwise there is a crack at the front sling bar base, a couple minor gouges on the left wrist and overall minor dents and scratches. The markings are readable. Mechanically excellent.
