<b>434. GUTZON BORGLUM</b>
<hr align=left size=5 width=33% color=#778899>(1871-1941).<i> </i>American sculptor responsible for the carvings of Mount Rushmore as well as the commencement of the Confederate memorial at Stone Mountain, GA. TLS, 1p, 4to, Mount Rushmore, Oct 3, 1934. On Rushmore National Memorial commission letterhead to H.C. Farnham incorporating two supplemental clauses into an accompanying contractual agreement, 4pp, whereby Farnham and Floyd Mellen, both of Omaha, are given<i> “exclusive right to sell to the retail trade facsimiles of the heads of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt”</i> together with book ends, full portraits and fragments, anywhere within the US and Canada excepting Mount Rushmore and Rapid City. Borglum also agrees to <i>“attach his signature”</i> to each figurine. Both letter and the referenced contract, dated Sep 26, 1934, are boldly signed by the three principals, Borglum signing three times on the letter—at conclusion and beside each of the two addenda. Letter evidences normal folds; light wear and paper clip impression at top margin; else VG/Fine. The contract, with paper clip stain at top margin and occasional very small edge chips with minimal paper loss, is in o/w excellent condition. Very nice combination providing insight into a portion of the financing of Borglum’s grand vision which became one of America’s greatest and most beloved memorials.<b> $2,500-3,000</b>

11. All bidding is done in a competitive manner. The
winning bid will always be one bidding increment
over the second highest bid. The minimum
acceptable bid for any lot is 50% of the low
estimate given in the item description or $25,

12. Payment is expected immediately upon receipt of
invoice. All accounts are payable to Signature
House. Payment must be made in U.S. funds. Wire
transfer details are available upon request.
West Virginia residents will pay a sales tax of
6% unless a resale number is filed with us prior
to the closing date. For sales outside of the USA
a credit card is requested.

13. Shipment is made via U.S. Postal Service or
Airborne unless otherwise instructed. Handling,
shipping and insurance charges are added to the
invoice. Oversize and foreign shipments are subject

14. Golden Guarantee: All material is returnable within
seven days providing that it comes back in the same
condition. There is a lifetime guarantee on
authenticity to the original purchaser. The item(s)
