Remember, remember the fifth of November, the gun powder treason and plot! 1795 etching of The Execution of the Conspirators in the Gunpowder Plot in the London after Claes Jansz Visscher’s 1606 etching of the torture and execution of Robert Catesby, Guy Fawkes, John Wright, Thomas Wintour, Thomas Percy, Robert Keyes, Thomas Bates, Robert Wintour, Christopher Wright, John Grant, Ambrose Rookwood, Sir Everard Digby and Francis Tresham for their 1606 plot to kill King James I by blowing up the House of Lords. Plate area measures 21 by 16.5 cm on 26 by 21.5 cm wove paper. Some faint foxing on print area, folded and creased corners, a water stain in the lower right, and a dark spot on the left-center plate boundary. Lower right corner is marked “CA” in pencil. Tape is affixed to the left and right edge to attach it to the mat. Very strong, crisp impression with no lost detail, overall in very good condition for age. Stored flat, framed (15 by 11.5 inches).
