VARMINT RIFLE .220 SWIFT WITH SCOPE, THE PROPERTY OF NORRIS MORGAN WITH PHOTOGRAPH & ILLUMINATOR PERIODICAL FEATURING PHOTO. Cal. .220 Swift. S# 199. Norris Morgan enjoyed long range shooting at woodchucks, a sport at which he often had Seymour Griffin as companion. In the Hartford Electric Light Company periodical "Illuminator" article, Norris is pictured in silhouette w/ this rifle. This rifle has 26" heavy Winchester bbl. w/ integral front ramp drilled & tapped for scope blocks. Griffin & Howe name is on top of bbl., their number is obscured by present front scope block. What appears to be commercial Model 98 Mauser standard length action (although unnumbered/marked, the machining is of the highest quality). Trigger guard has integral mounting for set triggers & bolt knob is pear shaped has stippled receiver ring flanked by scroll engraving. Bolt handle has been lowered & shaped. Three checkered panels are on pear shaped knob. Flag safety is gold inlaid "FIRE" & "SAFE". Bottom metal is fitted w/ double set triggers & front part of forend floorplate is checkered. Stock of well streaked dense European walnut exhibits classic G&H post WWII styling w/ swept shadowline right hand cheekpiece, steel grip cap, horn forend tip, & well cut point pattern checkering w/ mullered borders at grip & around forend. Stock measures 13 7/8" from front trigger over Winchester model 70 steel buttplate. Rifle fitted w/ 15x Lyman "Super Targetspot" scope w/ crosshair reticle & lens covers. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: included is an inventory sheet, a silhouette photo of Norris Morgan & copy of "Illuminator" periodical in which this photo is used. CONDITION: fine to very fine. Metal parts retaining nearly all later immersion blue (rear receiver ring lowered & clip slot welded up). Stock w/ only a few minor handling marks & scrape at top of comb. Checkering lightly worn. Bore is fine to very fine, action is smooth. Scope is fine, optically a bit hazy. (21-328/MGM). CURIO. $2,500-3,500.
