GREAT TINTYPE OF UNION OFFICER AND WIFE. A quarter-plate tintype of a young 1st Lieutenant captured next to a fashionable young woman, presumably his wife or betrothed. He wears a tailored nine-button officers shell jacket with early narrow rank straps and unadorned kepi. She is the epitome of finer city fashion with feathered hat and checkered hoop day skirt. The couple is unidentified. Most unusual is the fact that he is gently holding her hand in contact rarely seen in the context of mid-Victorian photography. The bottom third of the image is slightly dark with overall dirty cover glass, else VG. Housed in a repaired brown composition case.
