GREAT GEORGE WASHINGTON PIN BOX. Washington "Forget me Not" box. A 2.75 x 3.75" box with hand-colored glass lid adorned by a portrait of our Founding Father, a mirror recessed in the inside lid, and a glass panel on the bottom with a heart-shaped valentine sentiment. These thread/pin boxes date to 1824 with examples known for Washington, Lafayette, J.Q. Adams, and Jackson. The only other known examples were made for Zachary Taylor in the campaign of 1848. These usually suffer significant damage and or loss; this specimen is about as fine as seen.
