Description:
Mostly brassy bronze, two are gilt, 3 in red copper, 21-23 mm. 2.5 - 3.5 grams each, 12 pieces dated 1837, 3 are 1830, 1, the largest, is dated 1864. One is pierced, one has an integral loop. Conditions vary from VG to AU. All have the head of Victoria, left.Titles vary, VICTORIA QUEEN OF GREAT BRITAIN, or H.M.G.M. QUEEN VICTORIA or VICTORIA DEI GRATIA. The common reverse features a man on horseback, sometimes carrying a sword, the horse jumping over a creature with three snake heads. The date is in the exergue. On top: TO HANOVER. These political pieces were produced in large numbers, mostly at the accession of Queen Victoria. As the new queen had lost possession of the family territories in Germany due to their laws insisting on male rule, there was a popular movement to retake these lands, by force, if necessary.
