Description:
25 mm, 4,4 grams. Obverse: ANNA. DG. MAG. BRIT. FR. ET. HIB. Bust of Queen to left. Reverse: ANGLOR. ET. BATAV. VIRTVTE. Several ships on the sea, map around. In exergue: INCENS CLASSE OPES / ERIC. INTER / CEPT 1702. This "expedition" was actually a seizure of Spanish ships carrying bullion from the Americas. Some British silver coins were struck with the notation VIGO below the Queen's bust, indicating they were struck from this seized silver.This example is in Choice UNC condition, but for some edge imperfections that may be adjustments. There is also some yellow colour, especially on the reverse, that may indicate a light gilding.
