GOULD, JAY
288. JAY GOULD (1836 - 1892) American financier and "robber baron" who manipulated railway stock prices, looted the Erie Rail Road's treasury, and brought on the panic of "Black Friday". Interesting D.S. 2pp. 4to., Duchess Co., NY, Sep. 10, 1867, an agreement between Gould and the Rensselaer & Saratoga Rail Road Co. in which Gould and his wife convey a parcel of land to the railroad in consideration of the sum of $1.00. Signed at conclusion. Signature is a bit weak, about 50%, but is entirely legible. A nice association for this famous railroad baron. $700-900
