ATTRACTIVE GAME SCENE ENGRAVING BY J. LANCE. Cal. 16 ga. 2 9/16". S# 592. The 26 7/8" dovetailed bbls. are fitted with swamped game rib. Bbl. flats are stamped with French Nitro proofs for 2 1/2" chambers and with 4 palms. Bottom of bbls. is also stamped with conjoined "AB" in diamond. Coin finished sideplated boxlock action features nonautomatic safety, pivoting third fastener which engages short rib extension and double triggers. Action is engraved with sprays of scroll and line borders. Triggerplate and sideplates are near fully engraved with well cut and detailed sporting scenes with nimrod firing at departing duck while his setter watches is on left. The setter is retrieving a pheasant on right while another pheasant takes wing. Triggerplate has scene of two woodcock under Aspen branch. Engraver's signature "J. Lance" is under hunter and dog scene. Fences are attractively relief carved with grape leaves. "AB" is on central pivot of top lever. Streaked and lightly fiddle figured straight grip European buttstock measures 14" over black "Decelerator" pad. Nicely cut skipline checkering is at grip and a sling loop matching that soldered to bottoms of bbls. is on toeline. MEASUREMENTS: BRLS: Bore Diameter: R .669", L .667". CONDITION: good, bbl. with remnants of old reblack is mostly grayish brown. Action and lockplates retain most of their original attractive French gray. Engraving remains very fine. Stocks retain most of what appears to be their original oil finish with a large number of marks, knock and dents. Pad is relatively new. Bores are bright and shiny. Action is tight. (22-5416/MGM).
