MERKEL. Cal. 9.3x72 / 16 Ga. S# 5732. Bbls. 26 1/2" fitted w/ full length matted rib w/ maker's name & "Suhl" in milled out portion. Rib is fitted w/ pop up rear & silver bead front sights. Bbl. flats are stamped w/ imperial German nitro-proofs for 16 ga. & 9.3x72 rifle cartridge, along w/ proof date of 10/26. "BM" logos are on left side of rear lump & on breech face of nickel plated blitz action. Scallop backed action features Greener type safety, crossbolt third fastener, side clips, & dbl. triggers (front set). Action is engraved in full coverage lg. flowing acanthus scroll in stippled background. This scroll surrounds game scenes on sides w/ stag & three hinds on left & roebuck w/ doe on right. Trigger guard is of horn. Rnd. knob pistol grip buttstock of figured European walnut is fitted w/ cartridge trap on toeline engraved w/ auerhahn. Stock measures 14 3/8" over ribbed horn buttplate & features shadowline right hand cheekpiece & point pattern checkering at grip. Matching splinter forend has Deeley release. Drilling is also fitted w/ an old leather sling. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: R .666", L .665". Restriction: R .025, L .034" (FULL). Min. Wall Thickness: R .030", L .032". STOCK: DAC: 1 5/8" DAH: 2 11/16". LOP: 14 3/8". CAST: neutral. WEIGHT: 7 lb. 6 oz. CONDITION: good. Partially refinished. Bbls. retaining most of an old reblack w/ remnants of over varnish presenting mottled appearance. Action probably w/ new nickel plating is also covered in varnish. Stocks retain some of their original finish w/ considerable wear over many marks dings & bumps. Checkering is worn, especially on forend where it is gone on left side. Shotgun bores are bright & shiny. Rifle bore shows strong rifling w/ some pitting at breech end. Action is tight. Set trigger inoperable. Drilling could use a good cleaning.
