(GOLD MINING CLAIM FOR CALIFORNIA)
89. (GOLD MINING CLAIM FOR CALIFORNIA) A unique partly-printed legal document, 2pp. 10 1/2" x 17" Santa Clara, California, April 13, 1874, for the sale of a portion of a gold mining claim from a certain Mr. E. A. Smith to a Mr. M. E. Covin and reads, in part: "...E. A. Smith...for...the sum of Fifty dollars in Gold coin... does...sell...one ninth...Gradley Mining claims situated...in [the] Chimney Hill Mining District in Bloomfield Township, Nevada County, State of California. The said set of claims consists of nine claims of One hundred feet each running back to the center of the ridge and bounded...at a large cedar marked and blazed standing in the ravine four hundred feet below Nixon's barnyard...thence in a south easterly direction to the center of the ridge...". A great document from the heart of California's gold mining country and of the type which are very seldom encountered in today's marketplace. Additionally, this piece is worthy of further research as the Nixon farm might very well be related to future President Nixon, who was also from California. Near fine with light soiling.$300-500
