GOLD LORGNETTE AND IVORY FAN. Lot of 2. Includes an outstanding pair of hallmarked 14K, probably American, two-color gold lorgnette with approx. Half-karat rose-cut diamond set in handle with engraved floral, enameled in black. Engraved "Emma Mergenthaler." Emma (Lachenmayer) was the wife of Ottmar who invented the Linotype machine in 1884, awarded a medal from Copper Union, the Scott medal and the Cresson medal for his invention. This lot also includes a fine carved ivory fan, with deeply carved waving stems of ripe grass, 8" long. 1st with only minor scratches; 2nd needs new silk ribbon.
