GLEB W. DERUJINSKY AMERICAN/RUSSIAN, 1888–1975 BRONZE VENUS MARINA, 1923
A finely cast allegorical bronze sculpture depicting Venus, the classical goddess of love, in a graceful contrapposto pose, holding draped fabric that envelops two kneeling putti gazing upward in adoration. The central female figure is rendered with Derujinsky's hallmark neoclassical sensitivity and elegant anatomical modeling, while the putti, with rounded limbs and expressive gestures, provide dynamic balance and narrative symbolism.Signed in the cast: G. Derujinsky 1923.Foundry mark: R.B.W. (Roman Bronze Works, New York). The group rests on an integral cast bronze base with gently stepped and faceted edges. The overall composition reflects Beaux-Arts training fused with early Art Deco refinement.Exhibited: William Macbeth Galleries, NYC: Feb 16 - March 8, 1926.
