Heavily cast, with good Gilding, this beautiful TIBETAN Sakyamuni is in the act of "Touching the Earth". The casting is well-made and detailed, as with robe edges, floral hand accoutrements, wrapped bands around the body at the front midsection (triparte Banner, symbolizing Victory), and interesting lattice-work at the back. Some of these design elements are surely Sect-specific. The face is serene, downcast and well-formed as are the many fine and small hair curls. Natural wear-through-the-gilding is noted on the upper back, nose & eyelids, right shoulder, and parts of the Lotus Throne. The patinated under base, of an older design, may be a replacement, and is holed. (When removing the base of a Tibetan sculpture and reconsecrating the contents, OR when preparing the sculpture for sale by taking away said consecrated objects, the underbase often gets damaged beyond reworking, and is replaced). 18/19th C. , 6-7/8" tall by 4-1/2" wide, the single-layer of Lotus petals that make up the Throne is Himalayan, and NEVER Chinese.
