GILFILLAN [Robert]
An ALs of 2 sheets of paper written on one side of some 30 lines . A number of the lines are corrected and the MS. is written in a bold and rather untidy hand suggesting that it may well have been the first draft. The poem begins " How beautiful and bright/The snow-flakes fall/covering in mantle white/The green fields all!"
Note: Robert Gilfillan (1798-1850) was a poet and song writer who published a small volume of Original songs in 1831 of which there were a couple of further editions during his lifetime. In later years he contributed to the Dublin University Magazine, the Scotsman and the anthology Whistle-Binkie. A note with the poem suggests that it was not published.
