GILBERT U-238 ATOMIC ENERGY LAB.
Described by A.C. Gilbert as "The most spectacular of our new educational toys...The Atomic Energy Lab was also the most thoroughly scientific toy we had ever produced, and only boys with a great deal of education could understand it." This is one of the most sought after "science" toys which rarely are offered for sale, and usually in poor condition. Due to its complexity, it was sold to the public in 1951 for $49.50 (Nearly $500 in today's dollars!). At the time the U.S. Government was offering a $10,000 reward to anyone who discovered a deposit of Uranium ore. One could imagine a young boy opening this present at Christmas and staring at the items within like the cloud chamber, the deionizer, glass bottles with labels like "carnotite", "uraninite", etc. With a very strange and eerie appearance, this unit appears to be complete and intact. Obviously a toy of this nature would appeal to those who like space toys, science toys, etc. The inside lid of the box features full color graphics of a boy wide eyed looking with great anticipation while conducting a scientific experiment with the cloud chamber. SIZE: 25" l x 16-1/2" w x 5" d. CONDITION: Overall very good to near excellent with only minor edge wear to box. Interior appears to be complete and intact. Rubber hoses present but showing expected deterioration. 1-13204
