GHELDERODE, Michel de.- Lettre autographe illustrée et signée au docteur Urbain Thiry : évocation de la ville de Gand. Bruxelles, St-Léopold 15 novembre 1960. 1 p. in-f°, encre verte + dessin à pleine page au verso (enveloppe conservée).
En vue de préparer le dernier numéro des Cahiers de la Biloque ("je vous rappelle que mon intention fut à l'origine de secouer un peu les médecins-écrivains pour qu'ils sortent de certain amateurisme facile. La littérature n'est pas un plaisir de dimanche, comme la peinture des gendarmes !"), il a envoyé les biographies de quelques poètes et amis (Madeleine Gevers, Suzanne De Giey, Robert Van den Haute...).
Il parle ensuite de sa fatigue ("L'asthme... Des nuits pénibles...") et de l'état végétatif dans lequel elle l'oblige à rester. Immobile, son esprit vagabonde et il songe à Gand dans laquelle il a erré il y a longtemps, au Gravensteen "où j'étais hypnotisé par une guillotine toute montée, et surtout par des glaives de Justice, en merveilleux acier ! On y remarquait aussi le "strop", l'affreux noeud coulant du bourreau gantois, noircie, poissée de sang [...] Est-ce dans le sous-sol qu'il faut chercher les rayonnements noirs et agisants qui font passer d'étranges nuits à ceux qui dorment à la surface ?".
Au haut de la lettre, en tête-bêche : petit dessin d'un bourreau-photographe en redingote.
Sur tout le verso : grand dessin signé et titré "Souvenirs de Gand", figurant un bourreau encagoulé, coupant des têtes sur fond de cloches et de beffroi ensanglanté. 250 Euros

After full payment, buyers are kindly requested to take away their purchases immediately after the auction or at the bookshop the next Tuesday after the auction 230 av. Louise, from 2 pm until 6 pm.
Goods will be send only after customers’ payment.
Packing and dispatching are entirely at the buyer’s own expense.
Books whose price exceed 100 EUR will be send by registered post.

Payment will be made in Euro's. We do not accept credit cards neither cheques whose total amount exceed 200 EUR or cheques not validated for higher sum.
Terms of sale require buyers to pay immediately for their purchases, which means that lots will be released to them only when full and cleared payment as been received by us
In addition to the hammer price, the buyer has to pay a buyer’s premium of 21%, V.A.T. inclusive, all strictly in cash and in Euro's (EUR)
In case of original art and if the principles of the author’s rights are applicable, an extra 4% must be paid on each hammer price of at least 1250 EUR
All items are assumed to be in good condition unless otherwise stated. Buyers are kindly invited to carry out their own inspection of the lots they want to buy. All items to be auctioned are on view for several days prior to the sale.
Returning an item after the striking of the hammer will not be accepted, whatever the reason put forward. Those items bought on order must be inspected within 8 days after receipt. Any return after this term will be refused.
All items of the catalogue with the mention « n.c. » (non collationné = not inspected) are not subject to return. Neither are those sold in lots (two items or more) works consisting in multiple volumes and periodicals or series.
If you cannot attend the auction, we can execute written bids on your behalf. To ensure a satisfactory service, it is necessary to make arrangements for the services at least one day before the sale.
On every purchase Belgian law only is applicable, and all cases of dispute are exclusively to the competence of the Brussels Chamber.
