GETTY, JEAN PAUL
287. JEAN PAUL GETTY (1892 - 1976) American businessman who accumulated over a billion dollars in profit from his oil investments. Superb, early A.L.S. "Paul" on his monogram letterhead, 3pp. 8vo., [n.p.], Dec. 6, 1910. Getty explains his unauthorized use of a car, in part: "...Mother just told me that she wrote you that I had taken the Chadwick out. The facts are these; I had to be at school at two o'clock...my car's steering connections were loose...I thought it best to take the Chadwick as I did not wish to miss college, and of course the street car was out of the question as it takes over an hour...she seemed to object to this harmless and thoroughly legitimate use of the car...I wish you would send me some money right away as I have only a nickel now and mother has none to give me, and with the Holidays approaching I certainly need money...I am too poor to buy books...I never do anything that I do not feel would have your approval...". Fine condition.$1,000-1,500
