<b>1294. IRA GERSHWIN</b> (1896 - 1983) American librettist and lyricist, brother of composer George Gershwin and writer of the lyrics for dozens of songs, most notably in "Porgy and Bess". Great signed book with a self-portrait illustration, the script to Gershwin's Pulitzer Prize-winning play <i>Of Thee I Sing</i>, a hardbound book published by Alfred Knopf, New York, 1932 bearing his inscription on the front flyleaf: "<i>What can I say at 4 A.M. at the Dorset Hotel to Irving Drutman but</i>" he adds a self-portrait showing himself bowing, adds a question mark, and signs in full. Covers bumped and slightly worn, marginal toning, front pastedown toned moreso, dust jacket present but torn, overall very good.<b> $200-300</b>
