GEORGIAN SOCIETY. The Georgian Society Records of Eighteenth-Century Domestic Architecture in Dublin. Introduction by Desmond Guinness. Dublin : Printed for the Society at the Dublin University Press, 1909-13, reprinted, 1969With some 600 plates & 200 other illustrs, 5 vols, large 4to, original cloth:nice,fresh set. A fine reprint of the scarce, and now rather expensive, original edition. It represents a valuable collection of photographs of surviving eighteenth century domestic architecture in Dublin. Several of the buildings described were already empty and awaiting demolition at the time, as after the Act of Union the city rapidly deteriorated from European capital to provincial town and many large houses were turned into tenements. The Georgian Society was formed expressly to compile a definitive record while this was still possible.(5)IRELAND; DUBLIN; ARCHITECTURE; DOMESTIC ARCHITECTURE; ; ; ; ; ; ; ;
