GEORGIAN MAHOGANY SERPENTINE FRONT CHEST OF DRAWER

S. Branded "RICE", cabinet maker. 2nd half 18th century, England. Rectangular case with molded top of serpentine form with canted corners above the conforming chest fitted with four long drawers with cockbeaded edges, serpentine fronts and fitted with circular brasses with floral rondels and rope twist bail on a molded base, raised on block feet with shaped returns. Each drawer front and corner pilaster with contrasting string inlaid borders. NOTE: The cabinet maker's brand is located on the interior left side facing of the upper drawer. The last name is "RICE". There appears to be a partial letter in front of the name, which we are unable to identify. SIZE: 36" h x overall 43" w x 24" d. CONDITION: very good original condition. Surface original, top nicely polished with rich patina. Case, sides and front age darkened with minimal craquelure. (02-17838/TG). $1,000-2,000.
