Additional Information: This work is hand signed in pencil by the artist at the lower right "G.Braque".
It is also numbered in pencil in the lower left "60/70".
This work was printed by Desjobert and published by Louis Broder in Paris in 1960 ina limited edition of 70 hand signed and numbered impressions. This was the deluxe edition aside the illustrated publication "Le Tir a l'Arc" that included an etching on the cover, two wood engravings on protective the pages, and eight lithographs.

Provenance: The Vincent Price Collection, USA. Price was a noted gourmet cook and art collector. From 1962 to 1971, Sears, Roebuck offered the "Vincent Price Collection of Fine Art", selling about 50,000 pieces of fine art to the general public. Price selected and commissioned works for the collection, including works by Rembrandt, Pablo Picasso, and Salvador Dalí.

Note: From the 1950's , Braque started to use the bird motif in most of his artworks. The origin of that motif in the artist's is still unclear. Some critics saw in in these air-heavers ressemblance with the antiques decorations - etruscan to be precise - in the room beneath Le Louvre. Braque mentioned that his meeting with the poet Saint John Perse in 1958 and the reading of The Order of Bords (1962) inspired him greatly to create his birds. "People imagine that every bird must a Dove" said Braque to Max Ernst in 1955 but actually Braque's aim was to create a bird symbol of all. That same year, he visited a lot his friend the ornitholo

Condition: Good Condition. The paper is discoloured and wavy. There are tiny pin holes at the edges of the paper. Two labels from the Vincent Price collections accompany the work.
