<b>362. [GEORGE WASHINGTON]</b>
<hr align=left size=5 width=33% color=#778899>Authentic piece of red linen material measuring ¾"x4½" from a vest belonging to George Washington, which was contained in an envelope with embossed seals of Peabody Library 1852. Written on the envelope in pencil by the museum curator in three lines: “<i>Relics Vest of Washington and Lock of Bowditch’s hair</i>.” Contained in the same envelope is the referenced lock of approx. 50 strands of grayish brown hair tied with a small piece of linen thread together with a clipped signature of <b><font size=-1>Nathaniel Bowditch</font></b> (1773-1838), a noted mathematician and astronomer in the late 1700’s, removed from a document. These items are being offered together because of their retention and reference in the same embossed cover. Accompanied also by an ALS by Nathaniel’s son, Ingersoll Bowditch, 1p, 4to, Boston, Jan 31, 1841. To Fitch Poole, a historian/curator associated with the Peabody Library, transmitting the autograph and hair. In full, “<i>My brother Nathaniel informs me that at my request, he has sent you a memoir of my Father—I have very few letters of my fathers, am not able to send you more that his autograph taken from an old policy in the Life Office. I have also the pleasure to send you a very small lock of hair which I presumed you would value. I would it were larger but I have but little left. Your father’s name is associated with my earliest recollections & it gives me pleasure to oblige his son.</i>..” Boldly penned and signed. Fine.

11. All bidding is done in a competitive manner. The
winning bid will always be one bidding increment

acceptable bid for any lot is 50% of the low
estimate given in the item description or $25,

12. Payment is expected immediately upon receipt of
invoice. All accounts are payable to Signature
House. Payment must be made in U.S. funds. Wire
transfer details are available upon request.
West Virginia residents will pay a sales tax of
6% unless a resale number is filed with us prior
to the closing date. For sales outside of the USA
a credit card is requested.

13. Shipment is made via U.S. Postal Service or
Airborne unless otherwise instructed. Handling,
shipping and insurance charges are added to the
invoice. Oversize and foreign shipments are subject

14. Golden Guarantee: All material is returnable within
seven days providing that it comes back in the same
condition. There is a lifetime guarantee on
