As a jurist, he often espoused the cause of the Indians, endeavoring to protect them from the fraudulent practices of the white population. Manuscript DS “<i>Geo: Ross</i>,” 1p, legal folio, Cumberland County, PA, Jan 1750. Summons issued in suit for damages in which Nathaniel Simpson and Jacob Snively are litigants, Ross being attorney for the plaintiff. Boldly completed in his hand and signed twice, at conclusion and once within text as “<i>George Ross.</i>” Light foxing along weak folds; small partial separations at fold intersections with negligible paper loss; else VG. Attractively mounted beside printed descriptive text and woodcut portrait. Contained under glass within ornate gilt frame. Overall 26"x23½".
