Good content L.S. 2pp. 4to., "A' St. James" Nov. 8, 1799 in French to the King of the Two Sicilies, Ferdinand IV, responding to his thanks for English assistance in regaining Naples from French forces in 1799. In part: "...In the same time I received the good news of your return to Naples I had also the great satisfaction to receive your autographed letter containing the expression of friendship that in these circumstances has been reinforced and gave me the satisfaction of the return of you Majesty it will be without doubts the cooperation which made possible to split the glory between the troops of your Majesty and those who I had the luck to contribute...". On Jan. 23, 1799, French forces under Championnet established the Parthenopean Republic which lasted until May when the city was retaken with the help of Horatio Nelson. Nelson subsequently embarked on a brutal purge of all republican sympathizers in the city. With two intact seals on integral address panel. <p>2.) This auction will be held in two parts. Part I (Lots 1-415) will
begin at 1:00 PM Eastern Time on Saturday, March 29, 2003. Part II (Lots 600-1550) will begin at Noon Eastern Time on Wednesday, April 2, 2003. However, you may bid at any time prior to the sale dates.
