<hr align=left size=5 width=33% color=#778899>(1834–1896). French author whose work appeared in the <i>Cornhill Magazine</i> and <i>Illustrated Times</i>. In 1864 he joined the staff of <i>Punch</i>, where he became known as a gentle satirist of middle and upper class society. He also wrote and illustrated three novels, <i>Peter Ibbetson</i> (1891), the best-selling, <i>Trilby</i> (1894) and <i>The Martian</i> (1897). ALS, 1p, 12mo, London, Apr 8 [n.y.]. To unknown recipient in full, “<i>I returned to London today, to again go out of town, but any letter directed to the Punch office (Fleet Street, 85) will be immediately forwarded to me wherever I may be staying</i>...” Boldly penned and signed in full. Paper clip stain at top edge away from text; mounting stains along left edge slightly touching text; mounting residue on verso; o/w Good/VG.
