1/6 plate ambrotype with "Dunshee/ Artist" on the oval mat. This is surely Edward Dunshee, who operated as a daguerreian and ambrotypist in Massachusetts and other New England locations. This is another ambrotype that carries the conventions of daguerreian portraiture into the new medium. The ambrotype is in a central frame, so the front or back cover can be opened, allowing the image to be seen in true as well as mirror image orientation. In a fine stippled leather case with clasp that is in excellent original condition. [3]
