General Thomas Francis Meagher, (1823-1867), was an Irish nationalist, leader of the Young Irelanders in the Rebellion of 1848, and was a Brigadier General of the U.S. Army. Included with the book is a letter addressed to Thomas F. Meagher, Jr., grand-nephew of the General, from a friend, Carolyn Thomas Foreman. In the letter, Carolyn tells Meagher, Jr. that she found the book in a private sale and purchased it for him. His reply to Carolyn is also included. There is also a copy of the General's speech to his brigade in 1865, given to Meagher, Jr. from his sister Margaret. One of the versos of this speech is inscribed with some heritage information about Meagher, Jr. with a small newspaper clipping from 1924 about Meagher, Jr. Book has some few damaged pages and minor browning.
