"GENERAL STEAM NAVIGATION". This magnificent brass nameplate, with its enamelled centrepiece, and arms lettered "Merchant Navy Class" was carried on the right side of the Southern Railway 4-6-2 Pacific 21C11 built at Eastleigh in December 1944. It was renumbered 35011 in November 1948, and rebuilt at Eastleigh in July 1959. Latterly an Exmouth Junction and Bournemouth engine, it was withdrawn in February 1966 and sent to Woodhams of Barry Docks for scrap. It was the 210th locomotive purchased from there in March 1989, and moved to Brighton for future restoration. The plate is face-restored only. The only steam locomotive nameplate to incorporate the word 'steam'.
