Over a printed manuscript text, an excerpt from Eugène Ionesco's last play ‘Voyages chez les morts’, the artist has drawn an approximately square composition of gestural black lines. These lines are executed in different sizes and in various orientations and let see the text only in the lower part. This sheet is signed by both artists.

The lithograph is signed and dated lower right in pencil ‘Uecker 80’ and additionally signed lower left in pencil ‘Eugène Ionesco’. The sheet is in very good condition. The image measures 76.4 x 59.3 cm, the sheet 84.2 x 59.6 cm.



Günther Uecker (born 1930)

Günther Uecker studied painting in Wismar and Berlin-Weißensee from 1949 to 1953. He left the GDR and moved to West Germany to continue his studies at the art academy in Düsseldorf under Otto Pankok. Already in 1956/57, he created his first relief-like ‘nail paintings’, for which he is internationally known today. Some of his art can be classified as kinetic art. He represented Germany in 1970 and 1972 at the Biennale in Venice and took more than once part in the documenta. He was a professor at the academy in Düsseldorf from 1974 to 1995, and has won numeral awards. Günther Uecker lives and works in Düsseldorf. (fea)
