The silkscreen present here shows a typical nail image by the artist Günther Uecker, a subject that he deals with in three-as well as two-dimensional works. Our sheet comes originally from a portfolio called ‘Sarajevo’, published to the book ‘Sarajevo 96’ by Ingrid Bacher by the Eremiten-Press, Düsseldorf, 2005. This print is numbered 47 of a special edition of total 60 copies.

The silkscreen is signed and dated in pencil ‘Uecker 2005’ and numbered in Roman numerals ‘XLVII/LX’. The sheet is in excellent condition. The image measures approximately 24 x 15 cm, the sheet size is 42.8 x 48 cm.



Günther Uecker (born 1930)

Günther Uecker studied painting in Wismar and Berlin-Weißensee from 1949 to 1953. He left the GDR and moved to West Germany to continue his studies at the art academy in Düsseldorf under Otto Pankok. Already in 1956/57, he created his first relief-like ‘nail paintings’, for which he is internationally known today. Some of his art can be classified as kinetic art. He represented Germany in 1970 and 1972 at the Biennale in Venice and took more than once part in the documenta. He was a professor at the academy in Düsseldorf from 1974 to 1995, and has won numeral awards. Günther Uecker lives and works in Düsseldorf. (cru)
